Building The Chicken Coop

Sharing is caring!

This Chicken Coop is 4X8 with a 8X12 Run. Should fit 8 standard size chickens comfortably. It handles our 9 (3 that are smaller silkies) fine.

Started out with a frame lined with chicken wire to help protect from things that can come from under.

The Creator of this coop’s idea was to make it like furniture.

The furniture Idea worked great because it was later realized we were under a power wire.. Thankfully we were able to easily turn it.

As the building took shape, sand was added. Lots and lots of sand. Still need to add more.

The coop started to take shape. With a roof, hardware cloth, doors, and walls…

Extra fencing was added around the bottom for strength.

And then came paint… Daughter requested a blue chicken coop. So, blue is what she got.

I painted the inside as well with a clear paint. I let it air out for an extended time before adding chickens.

We still have a few things to finish, but our chickens have been safe and warm.
